Polish Humanitarian Organisation launched a new project in Iraq. It aims at building water treatment plant and its distribution system in village Attab, Babil province. 5 000 inhabitants of Shomaly region will obtain access to fresh water. The purpose of the project will be to reduce cases of diseases caused by the use of contaminated water.

The project is to contribute to realisation of three millenium development goals: reducing by two thirds the mortality rate among children under five (goal no four), reducing by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio (goal no 5) and the seventh goal: reducing by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water.

The project is being led thanks to the support of Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During its realisation PHO will co-operate with local Water Department in Al-Hilla.
